

Parrot Wins Grand Prize Alternative Spirit Award at Flickers' Rhode Island International Film Festival

The short film Parrot has been awarded the Grand Prize Alternative Spirit Award at the prestigious Flickers’ Rhode Island International Film Festival (RIIFF), an Oscar-qualifying event known for showcasing groundbreaking independent cinema.
Founded in 1997, RIIFF is one of the most respected film festivals in the United States, annually drawing filmmakers and audiences from around the globe. The festival, produced by the nonprofit Flickers, the Newport Film/Video Society & Arts Collaborative, has been an Academy Award-qualifying festival since 2002, making it a significant platform for emerging and established filmmakers. Each year, RIIFF presents hundreds of films, with the 2024 edition featuring 350 selections from 106 countries, including numerous world and U.S. premieres.
The Alternative Spirit Award, also known as the LGBTQ+ Spirit Award, celebrates films that push boundaries and offer fresh perspectives in storytelling. Winning this category is a notable achievement, placing Parrot among the standout films of this year’s festival.
